Yes. Each journal entry is ready to go with zero prep. Your child just needs the journal and whatever book they're currently reading.

The Intermediate Reading Journal is designed for readers in grades 4 and 5, but it works well for any child who is reading chapter books independently and is ready to think about what they read and apply or record their ideas.

The Intermediate Reading Journal includes 45 unique lessons that repeat four times for 180 days of instruction. Each daily lesson takes about 15 minutes to complete after the reading.

Absolutely. The journal is designed to be used alongside whatever your child is already reading, whether it’s a library pick, a read-aloud, or an assigned title. Before or after each day’s reading, your child completes an entry based on the pages or chapter they just read, turning their everyday reading into meaningful reading practice.

That’s okay! Lessons are structured with a variety of response types, including words or phrases, drawing, completing diagrams, and short answers. This gives your child plenty of practice without requiring a long written response every day.

The Intermediate Reading Journal builds on the skills introduced at the elementary level with reading skills that are appropriate for older students. As your child progresses, they’ll work with concepts like themes, character development, and deeper comprehension, giving them the next step in their reading development.

Bible verses are not printed in the book, only references are given. This allows families to use the translation they prefer.

The Bible is God's Word and the final authority for everything we believe and how we live. It is completely true and trustworthy in all that it says, given to us by God down to its very words. There is one God who has always existed as three Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God created all things, including human beings, by His own direct act. Salvation is a free and forever-secure gift, received by grace through faith in the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus came in human flesh, was born of a virgin, and rose bodily from the grave. He will one day return in person, in His own body, to reign on the earth for a thousand years. This return will be personal, bodily, and premillennial.
