Theology Starts With Knowing God

Theology isn’t just for pastors or seminary students. It’s for kids, too. It simply means the study of God, and every Christian needs to know who He is. Bible Basics introduces kids to important words like Trinity, sovereign, sin, grace, salvation, righteousness, and sanctification in language they can understand.

Each word is taught as one piece of a bigger picture. Kids see who God is, why sin separates us from Him and what Jesus has done. They'll learn how salvation works and what it looks like to grow in a relationship with God.

With Bible Basics, your child will:

Understand important theology words and recognize what they mean when they hear them in church or read them in Scripture.

See how truths like sin, grace, redemption, salvation, and justification connect within God’s plan.

Learn more about who God is through concepts like the Trinity, sovereignty, holiness, mercy, and His kingdom.

Understand that theology should shape how they trust God, obey Him, pray, and respond to what they read.

Build confidence explaining biblical truths in their own words instead of only memorizing definitions.

The Language of Scripture

When kids hear theology and church words they don’t understand, it’s easy to tune out and miss what God is teaching them. Bible Basics gives those words meaning and context so kids can better understand God’s plan throughout Scripture. As they learn to find answers in their own Bibles, they grow more confident reading God’s Word and understanding what He is teaching them for themselves.

How it works.

Bible Basics is part of the 5-book Stepping Stones bundle. In this study, kids learn important theology words and see how they connect to who God is and His plan. In the series, they’ll explore theology, learn how real heroes are defined by faith, trust His covenant promises, explore God’s miracles, and uncover the meaning of Jesus’ parables.

FAQs

  • Is theology too advanced for kids?

No. Theology simply means the study of God, and every Christian deserves to learn theology. Kids already hear words like grace, covenant, salvation, and sanctification in church and Scripture. Bible Basics breaks those big ideas down in age-appropriate language, then sends kids to their own Bibles to see what God says. The goal is to help them know God better, understand His plan, and apply what they learn to their own lives.

  • What theological terms are covered?

Bible Basics covers theology, Trinity, sovereign, sin, eternal life, covenant, holy, redeem, salvation, grace, faith, righteousness, justified, mercy, adoption, repentance, sanctification, church, and kingdom. The final lesson reviews the major terms and shows how these truths fit together in God’s plan.

  • What do you believe?

We are Bible-believing evangelical Christians. It's our mission to create products that handle the Word of God accurately and literally. We aim to get families into the Word for themselves and challenge them to read and think about it carefully rather than relying on the words and ideas of others. We believe all families should be asking about the theology of the resources they use, as nothing is neutral and everything has a worldview. Here is what we believe:

The Bible is God's Word and the final authority for everything we believe and how we live. It is completely true and trustworthy in all that it says, given to us by God down to its very words. There is one God who has always existed as three Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God created all things, including human beings, by His own direct act. Salvation is a free and forever-secure gift, received by grace through faith in the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus came in human flesh, was born of a virgin, and rose bodily from the grave. He will one day return in person, in His own body, to reign on the earth for a thousand years. This return will be personal, bodily, and premillennial.

  • What age level should I buy?

This is by far the most common question we get around here. Please check out this video. I'll show you the differences between the levels and walk you through how to use them as a family!

  • How many copies should I buy?

You'll want to purchase one copy per child at their specific age level. This will enable children to study at their level and record their own drawings and responses to the Word.

We highly encourage you to make sure that each child can participate by having their own book on their own level. You can learn more about why in this video.

  • How long are your studies?

Each Bible study is a slightly different length, ranging from 20 lessons to 28 lessons. We suggest doing one lesson a day. Most kids find that it takes about 15 minutes a day.

  • What version of the Bible do you use?

There is no scripture written out in our studies, only references. When it comes to growing faith, it's crucial that kids look up passages in the Bible for themselves and our studies are written to help them do that!

We study and write using ESV, as well as a variety of translations. Special attention has been given to make sure kids can answer questions regardless of the translation they are using.
