Second Grade Homeschool Curriculum Bundle

For homeschool moms who want to open one book, watch their child light up, and see learning finally click.

The "Just Right" Second-Grade Core That Trades Worksheet Fatigue for Hands-On Discovery

An open-and-go curriculum that gives your 7- to 8-year-old a biblically grounded, hands-on education they'll actually want to open.

The Integrated 2nd-Grade Core: Bible, language arts, reading, writing, and science all seamlessly integrated into one box (just add math).

No Tears, No Boredom: Right where your second grader actually is. Never so easy they tune out or so advanced it ends in a meltdown.

No More Busywork: Replaces standard fill-in-the-blank pages with active critical thinking, weekly experiments, and spatial reasoning (tangrams included!).

True Open-and-Go: Designed by curriculum experts and veteran moms to require minimal parental prep on busy mornings.

Fosters Independence: Watch your child transition from needing constant hand-holding to confidently driving their own discoveries by spring.

A Second-Grade Core Built Around Curiosity

The Not Consumed Second-Grade Curriculum is a beautifully planned, open-and-go second-grade year your child will actually want to open. Bible, language arts, reading, writing, and science woven together through the way God's world moves, all rooted in a biblical worldview.

Bible, Language Arts, Science, and a Full Second-Grade Core in One Box.

Discoveries in Motion carries science, writing, and vocabulary through six units: the human body, transportation, building, inventions, space, and sports.

Planner D: Science and Life Skills gives your child a daily structure for recording work, practicing handwriting, and connecting Scripture to what they're learning that week.

Elementary Reading Journal builds comprehension and analytical thinking while your child chooses their own books.

Elementary Reading Guide Safari walks your child through what to look for before, during, and after reading in both fiction and nonfiction.

Just add math.

What Exactly Is Discoveries in Motion and the Second Grade Bundle?

This is a full second-grade core. Instead of managing five disjointed subjects, Bible, language arts, reading, writing, and science join together as one connected year. Geography is naturally woven throughout. The only thing you'll add is math.

How a Lesson Works

Instead of lecturing or hand-feeding answers, each lesson starts with wonder to spark natural curiosity:

The Discovery Question: Every lesson opens with an intriguing question that anchors your child’s attention. What does circulate mean? How do planes stay in the air? How were the pyramids built?

The Daily Lesson: Your child builds core academic skills while hunting down the answer through integrated reading, writing, hands-on activities, and Bible connections.

The Practical Application: By the end of the lesson, your child isn't just memorizing a fact for a test. They're putting what they learned to immediate use.

The result? No guessing for you. Your child stays engaged.

The result is a second grade experience that feels less like completing assignments and more like uncovering the wonder of God's world.

How This Curriculum Works

With Discoveries in Motion, your child begins to understand that everything in God's creation is actually in motion. Instead of just learning information, they are guided through ideas they can see, test, and think through.

Here’s What a Week Looks Like

Each lesson takes 30 to 60 minutes a day. You follow a sequence that moves at the speed your second grader needs.

Every week includes:

Discovery Questions that anchor and drive the learning

Vocabulary Word of the Week that enhances the unit focus

A Hands-On Experiment that brings the weekly topic to life using simple household items

Weekly Mini Books your child can illustrate and cut out

Targeted Writing Practice where your child documents observations in their own words

Integrated Language Arts & Punctuation taught in context, not isolation

Reading & Journaling to build comprehension and analytical habits

Tangram Activities seamlessly built in to develop spatial reasoning

Scripture Copywork tied directly to the topic, featured daily in Planner D

Discoveries in Motion

This open-and-go 30 week curriculum carries science, writing, and vocabulary through six units: the human body, transportation, building, inventions, space, and sports.

Planner D is where independence grows. Record daily work, reinforce key concepts and practice handwriting using weekly topics and Scripture.

Elementary Reading Journal

A full-year homeschool reading curriculum that allows your kids to pick their own books while sharpening their comprehension and analytical skills.

Elementary Reading Guide Safari

Colorful trifold walks kids through what to look for before, during, and after reading to help them understand basic literary elements.

What Happens When Learning Is Not Connected?

As learning goals become more ambitious in second grade, many curriculum programs respond by adding more worksheets and busywork, and all of it lands on you to manage.

Sunday nights involve stitching separate subjects into something that resembles a week. Science from one place, grammar from another, a Bible lesson you kept meaning to get to. Binders and spirals spread across the kitchen table. The more you add, the less sure you feel.

You give it everything, and you're still not sure it's enough.

But meaningful learning isn't about adding more.

It's about subjects that work together, so your child can actually see how it all connects.

With Discoveries In Motion, you get one curriculum where Bible, language arts, reading, writing, and science combine into a cohesive year rather than five separate programs.

Your child runs the experiment instead of memorizing an answer, then turns around and tells you why it worked.

God's design is the lens through which the whole year looks, not a verse added at the end. And on any given morning, you open the book and go. No prep marathon, no second-guessing.

Just a curious kid and a year that finally holds together.

The difference between the following two homeschool days isn't more effort. It's what happens when every lesson is designed to build on the one before it.

We Spent 18 Months Making Sure It Would Actually Work for Your Family

This curriculum didn’t come from a Google Doc and a weekend of hustle. It came from 18 months of intentional development. From the first outline in June 2024, to production in November 2025, to release in May 2026.

The result: 3 Core Books, Discovery Journal, Planner D, Tangrams, Reading Safari Guide, Elementary Reading Journal, and a year that holds together from week 1 to week 30.

  • 12 Not a solo creator with a template. Twelve team members including curriculum specialists, designers, writers, and educators - each one contributing expertise the others couldn't replicate.

  • 3 3 leaders with Master's degrees in Curriculum and Instructional Design. These are credentialed curriculum professionals who know how your learner's brain develops, what early learning actually requires, and how to build a sequence that holds together across a full year.

  • 220+ 220+ combined years of homeschooling experience across the team. These are not academics theorizing about education from a distance. They are homeschool moms who have sat at the table with children exactly like yours, used curricula exactly like what you've tried, and built something they wish they'd had.

  • 9 9 illustrators who created 800+ original illustrations. Custom illustrations of the human body, buildings, and the everyday world your child is learning to understand. When your child opens this curriculum, they see a world that looks like theirs.

Why 2nd Grade Moms Are Calling This Their "Goldilocks" Curriculum

You've probably already tried the one that's too heavy. Dense, textbook-heavy, paced two grades ahead. It covers plenty on paper, but it buries a curious seven-year-old in worksheets until they start to dread sitting down for school. Somewhere in all that rigor, the wonder in your child’s eyes starts to dim.

Then there's the one that's too light. Adorable, hands-on, fun to flip through, the kind that looks wonderful on the shelf. But when the week is over, you're not quite sure your child learned anything that stuck. It looks like school and keeps them busy, but it doesn't build the reasoning a second grader is ready for.

Discoveries in Motion is the one that’s just right. Academically sound enough to be a real second-grade core, with enough hands-on discovery that your child actually wants to open it. The Bible is the lens the whole year looks through, not a verse tacked on at the end. Joyfully age-appropriate for your child and open-and-go for you.

Discoveries in Motion Was Created for Moms Just Like You.

You're in the right place if:

  • You want a fully-integrated core for second grade, not five programs to coordinate (just add math)
  • You'd rather watch your child reason and explain than fill in another blank
  • You believe biblical worldview should shape everything your child learns, not just show up as a sticker on the cover
  • You're teaching more than one child and need open-and-go to actually mean it
  • You want your child more independent in May than they were in September
  • You want a year that builds curiosity instead of burying it under worksheets
  • You loved Creatures in Creation 1st-Grade Curriculum, and you’re ready for the natural next step in curiosity-driven learning.

If you’re nodding, then Discoveries in Motion was built for you, by people who have walked exactly this stage of homeschool with kids exactly this age.

Imagine What This Year Could Look Like

Picture a typical Friday outing. The park. You've been a hundred times.

Your child has climbed every structure and ridden every swing, but today they're watching it differently. They stop at the bottom of the slide, go quiet, and say, “The steeper it is, the faster you go.” Not a guess. An application of this week's acceleration lesson, the ramps they tested, the speeds they timed, the results they recorded in their Discovery Journal. You didn't prompt that connection. They made it.

That evening they open the journal without being asked, write down what they observed, and note what they want to test next. Another entry. Another concept they understand now that they couldn't explain before.

Now stretch it across thirty weeks. By winter, your child is predicting outcomes before they test. By spring, they're documenting their own experiments without being asked. They’re using vocabulary they didn't have in September and noticing the order God built into the human body and the world around them.

Each week compounds.

These become habits that serve them far beyond second grade.

More than any individual skill or checklist item, your child will finish this year with something that can't be measured on a readiness assessment:

They will know that learning is good, the world is interesting, God made it all on purpose, and that they are capable of understanding it.

That's what you're building this year. And it starts the moment you open the box.

Questions About Our Second-Grade Curriculum Bundle

  • Is this really open-and-go?

Yes, and here's exactly what that means for a Monday morning. Lessons are laid out day by day with minimal prep. You open the book and start the lesson. The weekly experiments and tangram work use simple, common supplies.

  • Will my child actually engage, or just fill in blanks?

The whole design works against blank-filling. Each day is anchored by a Discovery Question and built around hands-on activities and experiments, so your child is observing, building, and explaining, not just recording answers.

  • What if we can't take every field trip?

We give you plenty of options so you can find something that fits your family's schedule and location. You're not hunting down a specific destination. You're choosing from ideas we've already matched to what your child is learning.

  • How long does the curriculum take each day?

Most lessons take about 30–60 minutes a day, not including field trips. The structure is flexible enough to move at a pace that works for your family while making steady progress.

  • Does "biblical worldview" mean it's light on academics?

No. We break it down, we don't water it down. The biblical worldview provides the framework, while strong academics provide the substance.

  • Is this academically strong enough?

Yes. Discoveries in Motion is a structured second-grade core that covers physical science, human body systems, engineering and structures, writing, vocabulary, and comprehension. It builds reasoning at a 7 to 8 year old's pace. It is not a heavy textbook program or an accelerated science track, and that's on purpose.

  • Is this a full curriculum, or do I need to add other subjects?

This is your full second-grade core. Bible, language arts, reading, writing, and science are all here, with geography woven through. For reading, the bundle includes the Elementary Reading Journal and Reading Guide Safari for a full-year framework. The one subject you'll add is math, paired with the program of your choice. After that, your year is set. Not Consumed's own 2nd-grade math is coming Spring 2027.

  • Where does Scripture come in?

The curriculum is built with a biblical worldview throughout. Daily Bible verse copywork lives in Planner D, which is included in the bundle, so your child gets into the Word for themselves alongside the lessons.

  • What do you believe?

Founder’s statement: “I believe that the Bible is the absolute authority in matters of faith and practice. It's 100% true, with no exceptions or figurative sections. I believe in the verbal, plenary inspiration of Scripture; in one God eternally existing in three Persons; in the creation of all things, including man, as the direct act of God; in eternally secure salvation by grace through faith in the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ; the incarnation and virgin birth of Christ, and in His bodily resurrection; in the personal, bodily, pre-millennial return of the Lord Jesus Christ and His millennial reign on earth”.

  • Do I need one per child?

Because your child writes in the Discovery Journal, runs the experiments, and documents their own work, you will need one set per child. Extra tangram sets are available separately.

  • Is the curriculum accredited?

Though schools can be accredited, there is not an accreditation program for curriculum.

Second Grade Doesn't Need Stacks of Worksheets.

It needs a year where your child learns to think. To run an experiment, predict an outcome, and explain what they saw. To see God's design in how the world actually works.

You don't have to piece it together from separate programs and hours of Sunday-night prep. You can give them a year full of stories to tell and re-tell through the years.

If second grade has been feeling scattered, this is the year to bring it back together.

Here's what happens next: place your order, and your bundle ships within 1 to 2 business days. When it arrives, open Book 1. Everything is organized and ready.

Your first discovery is waiting.
