Discover God’s Creation

Head outside to explore God’s creation together. Backyard and Beyond gives you 20 adventures to share with your child, from visiting an apple orchard to discovering what’s in the night sky. One day you’re making a family planetarium at your kitchen table. A few days later, you’re lying on a blanket together looking for constellations.

Each adventure includes a parent page to help you prepare, hands-on activities, and pages for your child to record what they discover. Biblical questions help you talk about what each adventure teaches them about God. Grab their adventure bag and head out together, then add a sticker to their tracker map when you return.

With Backyard and Beyond, your child will:

Notice the details in God’s creation. Check off each fall leaf color they find, spot icicles and cardinals on a snowy scavenger hunt, and draw the plants and animals they see at the pond.

Discover science through hands-on fun. Make a pumpkin volcano, create a tornado in a bottle, or use the sun to cook solar oven s’mores.

Use math as they explore. Count, sort leaves, measure, and discover how to tell time with a homemade sundial.

Build their vocabulary. Learn words like habitat, nebula, and meteorologist, then talk and draw about what they noticed on each adventure.

Learn about the God who made it all. After each trip, talk together about the question, “What can this field trip teach you about God?”

Make Time to Wonder Together

Your child’s questions can be the start of your next adventure. When they ask how a seed grows into a plant, start a garden together. When a storm rolls in, watch it from the window and talk about what you see. Choose something they’re curious about and use the book to help you explore it. Capture your child’s wonder and step into God’s creation to learn together.

Why You’ll Love It:

  • Ideas and guidance for adventures together
  • Choose adventures to fit the season
  • Hands-on activities to enjoy before each trip
  • Backyard or virtual options when you stay home
  • A picture book suggestion for every adventure

  • What are the credentials of the Not Consumed team?

The Not Consumed team exists for one purpose: to help your family grow in faith so you can live #NotConsumed. We are homeschool parents with over 220 years of combined homeschooling experience, advanced degrees in education and curriculum design, and a deep love for serving families well.  Everything we create is anchored in Scripture. We keep it practical, clear, and easy to use because we know your days are already full. We believe the best learning happens when families gather around God’s Word together. That’s why we create resources for different ages and stages, so everyone can take part.

  • What do you believe?

We are Bible-believing evangelical Christians. It's our mission to create products that handle the Word of God accurately and literally. We aim to get families into the Word for themselves and challenge them to read and think about it carefully rather than relying on the words and ideas of others. We believe all families should be asking about the theology of the resources they use, as nothing is neutral and everything has a worldview. Here is what we believe:

The Bible is God's Word and the final authority for everything we believe and how we live. It is completely true and trustworthy in all that it says, given to us by God down to its very words. There is one God who has always existed as three Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God created all things, including human beings, by His own direct act. Salvation is a free and forever-secure gift, received by grace through faith in the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus came in human flesh, was born of a virgin, and rose bodily from the grave. He will one day return in person, in His own body, to reign on the earth for a thousand years. This return will be personal, bodily, and premillennial.
