Fall in love with reading again!
The Middle School Reading Journal is a full-year homeschool language arts curriculum that allows your middle schooler to pick their own fiction and nonfiction books while sharpening their comprehension and analytical skills.
With a special focus on style, facts, ideas, and biographical character evaluation, our Nonfiction section of the Middle School Reading Journal helps your middle schooler discern between worldly wisdom and biblically sound philosophies in their reading.
Our Fiction section hones in on plot, character development, atmosphere, and literary devices to guide your middle schooler in recognizing when literature presents a biblical worldview and when it glorifies themes or characters who oppose God and His truth.

WHY YOU'LL LOVE THE MIDDLE SCHOOL READING JOURNAL
What started as an elementary-level curriculum has now grown into a multi-level language arts curriculum that will take you from 2nd grade all the way through high school!
I created the Reading Journal when one of my daughters began seriously struggling with our reading curriculum. I knew some underlying vision issues were causing her to be a little below level, but the main issue was that she hated the subject. We needed a change. So I dusted off my M.A.Ed. and created a reading curriculum that would fit ANY book that piqued her interest. Together she and I created something that changed everything.
If reading is a constant battle in your homeschool, the Reading Journal is for you!
This reading journal teaches reading comprehension, how to analyze what you're reading, helps build your student's writing skills, and even tackles the subject of worldview in literature.
Also, just by adding a grammar component, this journal becomes a full English credit. Planning your child's homeschool advancement just got easier!
The High School Reading Journal is a full-year homeschool language arts curriculum that allows your high schooler to pick their own fiction and nonfiction books while sharpening their comprehension and analytical skills.
Just add a grammar component to use the Reading Journal as a high school English credit!
The Elementary Reading Journal is a full-year homeschool reading curriculum that allows your kids to pick their own books while sharpening their comprehension and analytical skills. All in 15 minutes a day!
Let your kids take the reins and become life-long readers!
I study and write using the KJV and ESV Bibles. However, my studies are written with the intent that children and families will look up Scripture in the Bible of their choice, with specific attention taken to assure questions can be answered from a variety of translations. So you should be able to use whatever version your family prefers. It's my passion to see kids opening the Bible themselves, so we've been very intentional about this.
I believe that the Bible is the absolute authority in matters of faith and practice. It's 100% true, with no exceptions or figurative sections. I believe in the verbal, plenary inspiration of Scripture; in one God eternally existing in three Persons; in the creation of all things, including man, as the direct act of God; in eternally secure salvation by grace through faith in the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ; in the incarnation and virgin birth of Christ, and in His bodily resurrection; in the personal, bodily, premillennial return of the Lord Jesus Christ and His millennial reign on earth.
This is by far the most common question we get around here. Please check out this video. I'll show you the differences between the levels and walk you through how to use them as a family!
If you are buying softcover, you should purchase one copy per child. This will enable children to write in the book, as it is designed to record their drawings and responses to the Word.
If you are buying digital, you may make as many copies for your own family as needed. It is intended for single-family use only. If you plan to share with people outside of your home (like a group, co-op, church, etc.), you will need a site license to do so. Those can be found on our digital site license page.
Each Bible study is a slightly different length, ranging from 20 lessons to 28 lessons. We suggest doing one lesson a day. Most kids find that it takes about 15 minutes a day.
I have a son who doesn't love to read and this is his first year homeschooling after public school. He is already enjoying this book and the smaller daily assignments. He has voluntarily completed several pages and is reading his book every day. This journal is such a blessing! I love that it asks thought provoking questions and also compares the book they are reading to biblical truths and gets the kids to think and discern deeper about the book they are reading. Great journal!
We loved this for my middle schoolers as my high schoolers used the journal for their level.
My soon to be 6th grader has struggled with our LA curriculum due to not enjoying the reading books required. We decided to try out this reading journal and so far so good! He likes that he picks the books, the prompts are short but educational. It’s a great starting point for LA for him (will be adding grammer, spelling, etc.)
While my daughter now loves to read after leaving the school system, she still prefers to choose her own books for reading assignments and reports. This journal was a gamechanger providing some guidance and boundaries which allowed me to see how she was doing with understanding her chosen literature. Since it specifically says to choose fiction and non fiction it opened our dialog to choosing some new genres with little resistance. My daughter has adhd so breaking up reading pages and assignments were just perfect for keeping it simple. Love it!!
I am so impressed with the design and detail included in this reading journal. The layout is easy to use and the questions and activities are more than just writing answers. They inspire deep conversation about the book being read and encourage critical thinking skills. I am most thankful for the family time it allows through conversation about style, purpose, connections, vocabulary, worldview, application, and so much more. This is a win for our family.
This reading resource is very fun and interactive! It makes reading fun for my kids and makes them critically think!
This is a great all incompassing reading curriculum. My struggle is that I purchased a middle school writing curriculum that already has a reading curriculum in it. It's too much to do that curriculum and this. It is hard to find a writing curriculum that doesn't have reading with it. It might be nice to offer a writing only curriculum on your site.
