WHY YOU'LL LOVE THE READING JOURNAL
If reading is a constant battle in your homeschool, you're going to love this!
When one of my daughters began seriously struggling with our reading curriculum, I had to do something drastic. I knew there were some underlying vision issues causing her to be a little below level, but the main issue was that she hated the subject.
We needed a change. So I dusted off my M.A.Ed. and created a reading curriculum that would fit ANY book that piqued her interest. Together she and I created something that changed everything. And we want you to have it, too.
HOW IT WORKS
The Reading Journal is 168 lessons recommended for grades 2-5. Comprised of 28 unique lessons that focus on vocabulary, word study, comprehension, and higher-level thinking skills, the journal cycles through each lesson 6 times throughout the year, providing just the right amount of practice without too much monotony.
About once a week, students are asked to evaluate the content of their book based on God's truth. They will compare/contrast with Scripture, consider a character's behavior/influence, and even write out how they might share Jesus with the character.
Once a child learns how to read, he/she needs to continue skill-building throughout the elementary years. The Reading Journal provides the necessary practice while still allowing the student to choose what he/she would most enjoy reading.

The Middle School Reading Journal is a full-year homeschool language arts curriculum that allows your middle schooler to pick their own books!
With a special focus on style, facts, ideas, and biographical character evaluation, the nonfiction portion of the Middle School Reading Journal will help your student discern between worldly wisdom and biblically sound philosophies in their reading.
The fiction section hones in on the plot, character development, atmosphere, and literary devices to guide your middle schooler in recognizing when literature presents a biblical worldview and when it glorifies themes or characters who oppose God and His truth.
The High School Reading Journal is a full-year homeschool language arts curriculum that allows your high schooler to pick their own fiction and nonfiction books while sharpening their comprehension and analytical skills.

This journal fits within the style of how I teach language arts to my children. My son is excited to use it everyday. It has gone so well for him, that I purchased one for my kindergartner and she is looking forward to using it when she is in second grade.
I love the idea of this reading journal. It's a bit too advanced for my 1st grader so hoping it will be perfect for next year.
I've been looking at the reading journal for a while. My daughter wasn't quite old enough earlier this year. I decided to get it just before her 5th birthday this month and walk her through it. Already we verbally go through reading comprehension. I think this will be perfect to transition since she is reading better now. I will write what she tells me and have her read what I write.
These are a great way to make sure the kiddos are actually reading those independent books!
We love the Homeschool Reading Journal! It allows my daughter to choose what books she wants to read, yet prompts deep thinking responses to what she reads. It is great that it covers a variety of literacy concepts (i.e. vocabulary, word study, comprehension). Plus, we love the colorful illustrations!
We are loving this curriculum! My hesitant reader is loving reading time now!
My daughter has been struggling with reading comprehension lately and I’m praying this is the solution that will solve the problem. I love how it’s fun to look at for kids but they can do it independently as well.
We are just starting our process of using the Reading Journal. So far it has been easy to use for our 8 year old through 16 year old. The high school students use the prompts to start off more in depth assignments and they have helped get the thinking process going. I love the prompts that challenges the reader to compare everything to how God wants us to live. Thank you for an excellent product!
I love this Reading Journal! Kim does such a great job of helping kids compare what they are reading to God's Word. This is the best product I have found to help me to know that my kids are understanding what they are reading, without a ton of work. It's short, simple, and yet profound. It doesn't take a long time to complete or a lot of work, but it accomplishes the job it needs to do.
