Our Consumer Math course provides a full credit of high school Math. This curriculum applies the math principles your student has learned already to real life situations they will encounter, while also framing everything with a biblical perspective.
Throughout this course, your student will engage in and learn to solve the kind of math problems that come up in real life. Consumer Math helps them understand the value of stewarding their money wisely and gives them practice comparing and calculating prices in order to make the best choice for their budget.
Budgeting and understanding income versus expenses is a huge hurdle for young adults today. Consumer Math breaks this down, helping students to evaluate what financial responsibility looks like and preparing them to approach life from the perspective of wisely stewarding what God has graciously given them.
Various types of income including commission, hourly wages, and tips are described in detail and immediately followed with a practical application. Students are then challenged to apply what they've learned, seeing exactly how these concepts apply to and affect their lives.

God has blessed the Not Consumed team with a great deal of education (including a variety of degrees) and decades of combined homeschool experience. Several team members have subject specific degrees or master's degrees in education, specifically curriculum design.
I believe that the Bible is the absolute authority in matters of faith and practice. It's 100% true, with no exceptions or figurative sections. I believe in the verbal, plenary inspiration of Scripture; in one God eternally existing in three Persons; in the creation of all things, including man, as the direct act of God; in eternally secure salvation by grace through faith in the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ; in the incarnation and virgin birth of Christ, and in His bodily resurrection; in the personal, bodily, premillennial return of the Lord Jesus Christ and His millennial reign on earth.
Though schools can be accredited, there is not an accreditation program for curriculum.
Students preparing to take Consumer Math should have completed middle school math and have a solid understanding of basic math concepts such as multiplication, division, percentages, fractions, and decimals. We do not recommend starting Consumer Math prior to 9th grade. We recommend taking this during the 11th or 12th grade since it is primarily based on real life scenarios. Completing the course as close to the time to use those skills would be most beneficial.
Consumer Math is an independent learning-based course and does not require a teacher’s manual. A digital Answer Key that can be downloaded to your device is available. The Answer Key includes parent instructions, project grading checklists, and calculation answers.
There are many similar topics covered in both subjects. However, the course was designed as a consumer math course, so you may find some topics covered at different levels than expected in a personal finance course.
There are 22 independent projects within the course that are similar to an assessment of the material because students have to apply what they have learned to complete the project accurately. Grading checklists are provided in the Answer Key.
Consumer Math has 239 pages, covers 16 different units, and includes 22 projects.
Lessons should be completed 4-5 times per week. Lessons should take one day, while projects can range from 2-7 days. Each project has a golden badge with the recommended number of days for completion.
Consumer Math is written using USD (United States Dollar), traditional US savings and retirement terms, and the American customary measurements of inches, feet, yards, and miles, which affects many of the word problems in the text. Students are given opportunities to research various costs of items in their area for projects.
I am so so impressed with this curriculum! This Consumer Math is packed with everything teens need to know to live independently after graduation. I really like the idea of the projects in the book which will be great hands on learning. I didn't realize this was geared for 10th grade and above, so we will wait to use this during the 25-26 homeschool year. In the meantime, we'll use it as a reference book since my son is working this summer and the tax info will be useful to him. Thank you so much Not Consumed!
I love this curriculum for consumer math. I got it for my rising senior after comparing several programs. This one has all the areas I want to focus on along with a Biblical worldview. I can’t wait to go through it with my son.
So excited to be doing this math with my high school son this year. It is filled with so much good information that will be beneficial to him for the rest of his life. I love Not Consumed products and how she always incorporates godly wisdom in all she creates!!
I ordered this curriculum in lat May and received it a couple weeks later in June. I'm patiently waiting until our school year starts in August to dive in. It looks to be exactly what I've been looking for to use with my 2 high school girls.
I have a degree in Finance and have worked in the banking industry for over 10 years. I was looking for a finance course for my high schooler and couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for until I found this! So perfectly simplistic . And I say that as the best compliment. This is exactly what ever teenager needs to know, in a way that is written for them to understand.
My daughter is 17. She has Asperger’s/HFA. She is a life long unschooler. Recently she asked me for a life skills course that could teach her all the things she would need to know, in order to eventually live independently someday. I saw this book advertised on Facebook, and thought it looked like it would work for her. I’m so glad I bought it! It has all the topics she was asking about, and much more. And it is presented in an easy to understand manner. I’m so happy we found this book!
I had just purchased a stewardship math from another well known Christian publishing company, when I got the email about his new math coming out. After looking at it online I decided to order it to compare with what I had. Wow! This is going to be so much more meaningful and concise than the other course. I love how the lessons are fully applicable to your student. It doesn't just show how math is applicable in day to day life with random examples. The numbers are directly input from your student based on a potential career option, for example. It allows them to use math functionally, while allowing them an opportunity to research topics that will directly impact their near future. I love that it is just one spiral bound workbook with scripture built right in. I pray that it will be the perfect solution for my daughter's senior year math next year. If so, I'll be back for three more copies for my other children!
I purchased this to consider for a co-op class I will be teaching this fall. I love, love love it! I cannot wait to use it in my class. The projects are fun, engaging, and useful. No boring tests or worksheets-yay!!! The Christian Worldview was important to me and that is woven all throughout. I will update once I have used it but so far I am thrilled with what I am seeing.
I'm excited to use this curriculum! Everything presented in the book is clearly laid out. Also, I love that a bookmark is included and that these skills learned will be used!
