WHY YOU'LL LOVE THE READING JOURNAL
If reading is a constant battle in your homeschool, you're going to love this!
When one of my daughters began seriously struggling with our reading curriculum, I had to do something drastic. I knew there were some underlying vision issues causing her to be a little below level, but the main issue was that she hated the subject.
We needed a change. So I dusted off my M.A.Ed. and created a reading curriculum that would fit ANY book that piqued her interest. Together she and I created something that changed everything. And we want you to have it, too.
HOW IT WORKS
The Reading Journal is 168 lessons recommended for grades 2-5. Comprised of 28 unique lessons that focus on vocabulary, word study, comprehension, and higher-level thinking skills, the journal cycles through each lesson 6 times throughout the year, providing just the right amount of practice without too much monotony.
About once a week, students are asked to evaluate the content of their book based on God's truth. They will compare/contrast with Scripture, consider a character's behavior/influence, and even write out how they might share Jesus with the character.
Once a child learns how to read, he/she needs to continue skill-building throughout the elementary years. The Reading Journal provides the necessary practice while still allowing the student to choose what he/she would most enjoy reading.

I switched to this resource at the end of our school year and my kids love it! My oldest (3rd going to 4) completes it independently, but my younger daughter works with me and its her narration journal. It has a variety of activities and covers a ton. I shared it with a friend who teaches middle school ELA and she confirmed that it is indeed amazing and well planned! My kids are “ahead” of the game because of this resource. I’ll be buying more. My only complaint is that I wish there was one a little simpler for the younger grades or students who are still working on their confidence in writing so my 6yo could complete it independently. (Wink wink- new product idea!). Don’t hesitate to buy it. You won’t regret it!
My 7 year old cried everytime we got the reading curriculum out. I heard about this journal and decided to try it after being impressed with their student planners. This changed everything. We go to three library and pick out books on based off our current unit study and according to their interest at the time. I have them read for twenty minutes a day. They usually choose to also read before bed to get to stay up later. Then, they write in their journals. My daughter no longer cries when I tell her it's reading time! For me, that's a win!!! I want my children to love reading, not to dread it!
This is better than I was expecting . Colorful and engaging pages that will be sure to grip any child's attention. I can't wait to for upcoming school year. My child will love it!
I bought this journal for my niece and nephew after using the middle school one for my boys and loving it. They are loving it, too! It's an excellent addition to language arts curriculum, and the variety of each day keeps the kiddos from getting bored with. Highly recommend!!
I absolutely love this product! It is such a wonderful and fun way to learn lots of different reading/language skills: writing reviews, parts of speech, antonyms/synonyms...It also brings in a lot of character and Bible study ("Do this person's actions line up with God's Word? Why or why not?" "Why Bible verse could you apply to this story?") My older two children use this every day for their reading, and I plan to buy more for the next few years! Highly recommend.
I love the original book journal 😍 it's well made and helps children comprehend a little better. It's why I also bought middle school and will eventually buy the high school
Using this for my 2nd grader, 8 year old daughter. It's been so helpful in many ways. These questions cause her to think critically about what she's read. The questions comparing the Bible have allowed us to have great conversations. The creative graphics pull her in, and the amount of work is not too heavy for my reluctant writer. Even reading books that are not so educational has become a great lesson. For example, letting her read a book about her favorite video game and then completing the journal page on a word study has allowed her to read a topic she's interested in and still learn grammar.
We love using this resource to go along with our reading curriculum. It is easy to use and teaches our children how to test what they read against what the Word of God says. We plan to continue using this for all of our children!
We have really enjoyed this for our reading curriculum. I usually make my kids read between 15 and 30 minutes, and then we complete one section. It has been very enjoyable, and the kids like that it's different everyday. Thank you for creating such a fun curriculum.
