A Music Course Where Every Note Tells a Story

Still Singing turns familiar hymns into a full year of music study over 160 lessons. Your child gets to know the people behind the songs, understand the truth in the words, and then actually learn to play the hymns themselves.

The hymn story gives the words context. The Bible lesson shows your child where the truth comes from. Then the music theory, video instruction, and tin whistle practice help them make the song their own. Before long, you may hear those same hymns being played or sung long after school is done.

“The hymn histories give the songs so much more meaning and depth and my kids are truly thinking about the words.”  - Kelli L.

With Still Singing, your child will:

Learn the stories behind 32 well-known hymns and their writers

Understand the biblical truths taught through each hymn

Read basic music notation, rhythm, scales, and common music terms

Play familiar hymns on the tin whistle or the piano with included sheet music

Connect music with Scripture, history, and the lives of hymn writers

Learn the Story. Play the Hymn.

Week by week, your child focuses on one hymn at a time. They learn the story of its origin, open the Bible to see the truth in the words, practice a little music theory, and then put it all together by playing the hymn on the tin whistle or the piano. The lessons change enough to keep things interesting, while each part keeps bringing them back to the same song. By the end of the week, that hymn has become familiar in a whole new way.

FAQs

  • How is the course paced?

Still Singing includes 160 lessons for a full year of elementary music appreciation, with one classic hymn anchoring each week of study. Families can work through a little each day or adjust the pace to fit their homeschool schedule.

  • Can my child complete this course independently?

Still Singing is designed as an independent learning curriculum, with clear activities and video instruction students can follow. Younger elementary students may still enjoy working through parts of the course with you, especially the hymn stories and Bible lessons.

  • Does my child need any musical experience?

No. Still Singing introduces beginning music theory as your child works through the course. Easy-to-follow videos explain the music concepts and help students learn the tin whistle, so you do not need a musical background to teach it.

  • Does the tin whistle come with Still Singing?

No. We leave the tin whistle separate so you can use an instrument you already have or choose the one that works best for your family. We recommend a quality tin whistle so the sound is one your child actually enjoys playing. For convenience, you can add the Clarke Sweetone Tinwhistle in D to your order. The course includes the instruction and music your child needs to use it with the hymns they're studying.

  • What will my child study besides music?

Each hymn connects music with its story and biblical truth. Students also practice copywork and complete activities tied to what they are learning, giving them natural connections to Scripture, history, and handwriting throughout the year.

  • What are the credentials of the Not Consumed team?

The Not Consumed team exists for one purpose: to help your family grow in faith so you can live #NotConsumed. We are homeschool parents with over 220 years of combined homeschooling experience, advanced degrees in education and curriculum design, and a deep love for serving families well.  Everything we create is anchored in Scripture. We keep it practical, clear, and easy to use because we know your days are already full. We believe the best learning happens when families gather around God’s Word together. That’s why we create resources for different ages and stages, so everyone can take part.

  • What do you believe?

We are Bible-believing evangelical Christians. It's our mission to create products that handle the Word of God accurately and literally. We aim to get families into the Word for themselves and challenge them to read and think about it carefully rather than relying on the words and ideas of others. We believe all families should be asking about the theology of the resources they use, as nothing is neutral and everything has a worldview. Here is what we believe:

The Bible is God's Word and the final authority for everything we believe and how we live. It is completely true and trustworthy in all that it says, given to us by God down to its very words. There is one God who has always existed as three Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God created all things, including human beings, by His own direct act. Salvation is a free and forever-secure gift, received by grace through faith in the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus came in human flesh, was born of a virgin, and rose bodily from the grave. He will one day return in person, in His own body, to reign on the earth for a thousand years. This return will be personal, bodily, and premillennial.
