Not at all! The lessons are designed to be open-and-go, meaning minimal prep work is needed. Occasionally, you may need to gather simple materials for activities, but most lessons can be done with little to no advanced planning. Each unit is themed around a location though, so if that is not readily available, you will need to find a virtual option or make a substitution. There are lessons for each unit that are applicable whether or not you visit the location.
I study and write using the KJV and ESV Bibles. However, our products are written with the intent that children and families will look up Scripture in the Bible of their choice. The Biblical Worldview section of the parent planning pages guides age-appropriate conversations with Bible references and discussion questions.
The set includes an All Around Town curriculum book, coloring book, matching game, reusable sticker book, sticker map to track progress, Primary Planner A, and a themed backpack.
You should purchase one curriculum kit per child. Children need to be able to write in their books, track their progress with the sticker map, and have their own game, magnifying glass, and backpack. If you have a younger child, you can purchase an additional coloring book.
This curriculum has 20 field trips and coordinating activities. Material for each trip lasts about 1 week. It is important to know that school happens everywhere! This curriculum gives you freedom to take longer on some trips and also pursue additional activities during the “traditional school year”.
There is a suggested reading list to accompany the units, but the books mentioned are not required. Common household items may be needed for hands-on activities and dramatic play.
God has blessed the Not Consumed team with a great deal of education (including a variety of degrees) and decades of combined homeschool experience. Several team members have subject specific degrees or master's degrees in education, specifically curriculum design.
I believe that the Bible is the absolute authority in matters of faith and practice. It's 100% true, with no exceptions or figurative sections. I believe in the verbal, plenary inspiration of Scripture; in one God eternally existing in three Persons; in the creation of all things, including man, as the direct act of God; in eternally secure salvation by grace through faith in the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ; in the incarnation and virgin birth of Christ, and in His bodily resurrection; in the personal, bodily, premillennial return of the Lord Jesus Christ and His millennial reign on earth.
Though schools can be accredited, there is not an accreditation program for curriculum.
Purchased this for my now 4 year old. He goes to preschool 3 times a week, but also wanted to supplement at home. He truly loves creating his own scene with stickers and the matching game - Although, he's still trying to understand the matching game rules, but we'll get there. Absolutely love the field trip book and we can't wait to start adding those into our schedule. Even his older sisters (9&7) are looking forward to going to them too! Really excited to start implementing this into our daily routine!
If you must use a preschool curriculum, I highly recommend THIS one. What a wonderful way to teach about a child's community, map skills plus engage in a small amount of table activities like coloring and stickers and a community field trip. Partner this with some good picture books from your trip to the library and this is ALL you will need! I'm actually using this for my adult son with down syndrome who has significant cognitive delay- this is just a great curriculum.
We haven't started using the curriculum yet, but I've been able to read through the whole thing and I cannot wait to get started. Even though its a prek curriculum, my elementary children are going to do it with my preschooler and I'm so excited to start!
