Consumer Math for Real Life

Sometimes it feels like the hardest math problem is deciding what math courses your high schooler should take! If they aren't interested in a STEM career, certain math courses can be unnecessarily frustrating or even seem useless after high school.

Consumer Math for Real Life is our high school math curriculum recommended for 11th or 12th grade that fulfills an entire math credit while teaching skills your student will use in the real world. Consumer Math contains 16 different units and assesses learning through 22 real-world projects. From creating a budget, to writing a business plan, to planning and calculating the cost to floor a room, this course teaches math from a practical perspective. By the end of this course, your student will:

  • understand saving and investing.
  • learn what costs are associated with life.
  • know how to apply critical thinking to the real-life problems they encounter.
  • understand the basics of income, taxes, and employee benefits.
  • explore career or academic options for their life after high school.

Most importantly, they will learn that biblical wisdom is the solid foundation on which they can make every decision. Order your book today and help your student understand that math isn't just equations in a textbook!

The Answer Key for Consumer Math which includes parent instructions, project checklists, and calculation answers will be added to your account as a digital download. You can use it on your device or print it.

Great first steps

So far we are doing consumer math with my 11 yr old. It covers everything you want your kids to know about living on their own as a successful adult. We love it! It goes hand in hand with our home economics studies.

Not painful, great for teens!

My 17 year old daughter has always struggled with math, made more frustrating by her constantly challenging me with, "Why do I need this? When will I ever use this?" As a very bright young lady who will never ever want a STEM career, it was hard for me to make higher math relevant for her. But I wanted her to have the skills to "math in real life." She just needs one more math credit for high school, and I was glad to find this resource! Firstly, it's all in one book, no need to flip around between online/ book/ etc to complete lessons. She's able to see immediately why she needs to know these things, and tie it all back to her own life right now. She's referring to her own pay stubs from her part time job to understand withholdings and deductions, and is engaged. She likes that each step is explained to you with hints and equations provided. Finally, she's not asking me, "When am I *ever* gonna need this?!" Math is no longer the biggest drag of our homeschooling day!

So happy we decided to use this!!

My son completed Calculus 1, but won’t have time to complete Calculus 2 before the end of this year (his Senior Year). I wanted him to have a math program this year, but also wanted him to have a good idea of what to expect when he is out on his own. This curriculum has been amazing so far and I truly believe every high schooler needs to take this before heading out on their own!

Best Math Course!

We love this Consumer Math/Personal Finance course! My homeschool daughter is currently using this for her senior math course. It is user friendly, fun, and so helpful for getting kids ready for life after high school! She is coming to me regularly to tell me how surprised she is that college is so expensive, or how many hours she’s going to have to work to pay for a car, etc. This course helps them budget, shop for groceries, do taxes, plan for college, and so much more! Highly recommend!

Math for Real Life

My daughter is just starting this curriculum this year and I think it's amazing. She is doing a deep dive into researching careers, how to prepare for them, what the average salary is, and even seeing how withholdings and investments work. I think it's a really valuable experience for her to study before she heads out on her own.

High School Math Your Child Will Use!

This math is an excellent course to teach your child practical concepts and principles they will need and use in life. I was very pleased that it begins each chapter with a Bible lesson of how the math they will be learning applies to the Word of God. My 11th grade son has been using it for a couple weeks, likes it and is doing well with it, what a difference from past years of stressful math curriculums. Thank you to the families of Not Consumed who put out this wonderful practical math curriculum and offer it at such a reasonable price!

Her friends are jealous

I wanted to give our 11th grader something different and practical for math this year. There aren’t many up-to-date consumer math programs out there, so I was thrilled to find this great resource! She tells her friends about what she is doing and practicing for math and they say they wish they could have a useful curriculum. This program teaches applicable, practical concepts that will actually help my daughter in life.

What a difference!

I truly love how this curriculum weaves God throughout the pages. I like how the questions make the student think about their future goals and different scenarios they may face.
